The Future of the V6 and GT Mustang

A History of Power

The history of the Four and Six cylinder Mustangs hasn't been a spectacular one. With power and reliability being at the heart of the debate, the Mustang GT and LX V8's of the past have always reigned supreme. With the heart pounding, blood pumping ability of the American V8 at your controls, people have always felt a sense of ownership of the road.

With the current gas prices soaring past $3 and $4 dollars a gallon with no reasonable replacement in sight, people are starting to feel a sense of ownership in the gas stations they frequent. But no such ownership exists.

This is why the V6 and possibly the Four cylinder are destined for a comeback. Power is UP, Fuel economy is UP and reliability is second to none. Sales of the Mustang GT have been sagging for several years now. With the V6 out pacing it's more powerful sibling by several thousand units since about the year 2000. Ford sees the trend and in 2014 will unviel a new, smaller, lighter, more economic Mustang. Possibly making the high-end engine a Turbo V6.

We live in a changing world and who knows, maybe I am wrong. I don't think so, but maybe. All I can say for sure is my next Mustang purchase won't be until the new design comes out in a couple of years. And it will probably be a V6.
